The Deputy EC commissioner in charge of corporate affairs, Dr. Eric Bossman Asare said about 30,000 individuals have been disqualified from participating in the December polls. He made this statement in an interview on Joy news on Sunday, October 25th.
The disqualification was based on criteria. 14,000 of the affected persons were put on the Exception list. These people registered outside the stipulated registration time. The remaining 16,000 found themselves on the multiple list. These were persons who registered more than once.
To those who engaged in multiple registration he had this to say, ” They cannot vote because they had engaged in infractions, “
The issue was put before a judge after the eligibility of the affected people was challenged, he claimed. Dr Asare assured citizens that the commission followed due process before this action was taken.
He went further to reassure the public that everything was on course for the December polls. He was confident that the processes involved in this election doesn’t give room for a flawed election. This was in an attempt to debunk claims by some political actors that the elections might be flawed.
